We live in a city overflowing with local talent. Known for amazing food, Midwestern friendliness, rapid growth and a booming art scene, KC embodies a diverse community that makes this town so special.

You see this everywhere with the emergence of more craft eats and drinks, local boutiques and murals popping up across town. The color, creativity and fun comprise the personality that is KC!

MAKE YOUR HOUSE A HOME

We tour amazing homes every day. The ones that standout most are those filled with character and personality. Often character is in the form of period architecture and design elements. But, it can be added to ANY house through design choices and décor! Showcasing things you love, unique items and a bit of color will make your house a HOME.

We enjoyed this post on Made in KC Explore that features a group of vibrant local artists – JCDS Emerging Artists – a program started by Johnson County Developmental Supports and then expanded to the Art and Heritage Center. Take a minute to give it a quick read and learn more about this group that shows art locally! According to the blog, their next appearance will be in September at the De Soto Sunflower Art Fest.

GALLERIES AND SHOWS

If you haven’t, check out First Fridays in the Crossroads (tomorrow!), it’s another great opportunity to shop local art. Or, visit the many galleries around the metro, or make your own! There’s nothing more personal than showcasing art made by your family. This can be art made at home, school or at a studio, like Wolf Creek Art Studio. Use your art for a standout gallery wall, like this one from the Braden’s Hope Home Tour in The Farm at Garnett Hill in May!

Curb appeal is the first impression of your home. Over time, a little TLC is needed to keep your home relevant and well-cared for! We LOVE sharing ideas for easy updates – both to enhance your home to enjoy or to get ready to sell. Last week one of our team members made significant updates to her home’s exterior – including paint in a completely different palette! Obviously, you don’t need to go so far as a full repaint to punch things up, but it’s fun to see the difference new paint and accents can make!

Here’s a quick look at the BEFORE. This south Olathe home is 5 years old, and it’s recommended to paint your home every 5-7 years to keep things fresh and protected. For a new construction home, it’s actually suggested to paint closer to the 5-year mark. The timing on this paint is important to address caulking needs and to preserve the original layer of paint while it’s still in decent shape. Together, the caulk and paint help to protect your home.

LIGHT & BRIGHT

Now for the NEW … Jessica and her husband wanted to change their color tone from dark brown to a lighter gray. In the end, they chose a greige to complement the brown stone on entry.

Our fabulous stager, Julie Casey, recommended this Sherwin Williams palette – Intellectual Gray (body), Shoji White (trim) and Slate Tile (accent) –  to line up with the family’s interior and brighten things up!

ADD EXTRAS!

Beyond paint, Jessica made several small, inexpensive updates to enhance curb appeal. These included new exterior lights, numbers, porch pillows, and a fresh wreath and doormat. A last-minute request was made for the painters [RePaint KC:  913.638.6261] to change the color of the existing patio chairs, and everything pulled together!

If you want to enhance your curb appeal without a full paint, try painting your front door, or bringing pops of color in through pillows, plants or flowers! The best part is these updates are easy and effective, without a significant investment. Here’s to a bright, fun summer!
