If you’re getting your home ready to sell, or you just want to give it a refresh for the New Year, check out these three tips from our staging expert, Julie Casey:

1.  Neutralize. Neutralize. Neutralize. If there is something in your home that doesn’t resonate well with a potential buyer, it can be a real distraction and sometimes even a deal breaker (even if it is an easy fix!). When you decide to sell your home, you need to detach yourself from it – literally. Evaluate your décor and remove “extra” or personal items – think photos, collections, etc. The goal is to give your home a clean, streamlined look so that potential buyers can envision themselves in the space.

2.  Think in Threes. You may have heard the tip from decorators to place items in odd-numbered clusters. This is generally a good rule of thumb. When staging, try to limit your décor to no more than three items on top of any one piece of furniture. This is a good check to help keep clutter under control for clean presentation!

3.  Open and Inviting. Start at the entrance of your home. As you stand at the front door looking inward, is there anything impeding your line of sight into the home? Then, go room by room to make sure each is as open and inviting as possible. If you walk into the back of the couch in your living room, try reconfiguring your furniture to create an open entry. If there is a large piece of furniture close to a door entry, find a way to move it or remove it from the room. You want to draw the eye inward to attract potential buyers into the space.
