November is a month for giving thanks for your blessings. It’s also a time for giving back to those in need in our community. Starting next week, my wife, Maggie, is leading a collection to benefit Johnson County Christmas Bureau to help the first graders at Ellie’s school (Regency Place) learn the importance of giving back.
JCCB provides holiday assistance to low-income residents in Johnson County, Kansas. At its annual nine-day Holiday Shop, pre-qualified clients select groceries, personal care and household supplies, clothing, toys and gifts pegged to family size, age and gender. All items are new with the exception of books and coats.
Each year, JCCB brightens the holidays and beyond for more than 13,000 people, representing 3,600 families and 700 nursing home residents. It relies on 3,000 community volunteers to donate their time from mid-November to mid-December to make the Holiday Shop a success.
YOU CAN HELP! As you’re going through your house getting ready for the holidays, or running errands this weekend, please consider putting together some items to donate. Here’s a list of items needed:
*Shampoo and conditioner (adult and child)
*Deodorant (men’s and women’s)
*Toothbrush (adult and child)
*Toothpaste (adult and child)
*Body wash (adult, baby and child)
*New and used coats (washed with working zippers)
Asterisks (*) indicate the items in greatest demand. You can contact Maggie via e-mail at [email protected] or via phone at (913) 991-6019 and she’ll pick the items up from you! The collection will run through November 26.
Thank you for your consideration!
