Declutter and Donate

If you’re getting your home ready to sell, decluttering is a must. And depending on how organized your household is, this can be a job. That said, I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to have your home as clear and tidy as possible before you go on the market. You really wouldn’t believe some of the things potential buyers can get hung up on, but they do. Trust me. Besides, the work you will do to declutter before listing will also pay off when it comes time for you to pack and move.

Donate unused items to people in need.For those of you not facing a move, decluttering is still a good idea. If you get in a routine of cleaning out unused items in your home it will prevent build-up over time. Some people tackle this seasonally – spring cleaning and before the holidays, perhaps? Others do it before major events. Think kids’upcoming birthdays. This is a great time to clear out outgrown clothing, toys and books to make room for gifts.

November is a month about being thankful – thankful for your family, friends, home and blessings. As we enter this month and the holiday season, consider donating items you no longer use to benefit people in need in our community. There are so many wonderful organizations in Kansas City that will put your donation to good use. And many will even come to your home and pick it up at your convenience. It doesn’t get any easier than that!

There are also drop-off locations around town like Big Brothers Big Sisters, Goodwill and Salvation Army. I don’t mean to exclude other worthy organizations. There are just too many to list! I only provide these as a quick reference to help you. A quick Google search or website review of your favorite area non-profit will also highlight ways you can donate items to support a mission important to you!
