Well, it may not feel like spring with snow in the forecast this week, but today marks the first day of the season. Before long we’ll be spending more time outdoors enjoying warmer weather – can’t wait for that!

One of the perks of homeownership is having green space. And for those of you with homes on the market (or planning to list soon), you’re certainly aware of the importance of curb appeal to attract buyers to your home.

I recently came across this blog post for a Secret Lawn Tonic Recipe from a Golf Course Groundskeeper. It sounds easy enough and inexpensive, but I never would have thought that soda, beer and mouthwash would be part of a mix I would spray on my lawn! I haven’t tried it yet, but might when the weather warms up …

Have you ever tried anything like this? Do you have any tricks or favorite products you use to get your lawn looking nice and green? Happy first day of spring!

DaylightSaving

Remember to set your clocks forward one hour before you go to bed tonight – daylight saving time begins Sunday at 2 a.m. local time in all but a few parts of the U.S. While that means losing an hour of sleep tonight and probably a groggy Sunday morning, it also means more daylight and that we’re one step closer to spring!

The American Red Cross recommends using this time twice a year to ensure you and your family are on top of preparedness measures, like changing the batteries in your smoke detectors and perhaps your carbon monoxide detectors, as well as brushing up on (or establishing) an emergency plan and kit. With severe weather season underway, this is really timely for our region.

I hope these tips are helpful to you. Have a great weekend, everyone!

For so many people the kitchen truly serves as the “heart” of the home. It’s the room where friends and family gather, share meals and catch up among the bustle of everyday life. With that in mind, it’s also a room that takes a lot of wear and likely could use a little freshening up. And if you’re on the market or getting ready to list your home soon, pay attention, as the kitchen weighs heavily on minds of many buyers.

Before you rush out to buy that new TV you’ve had your eye before your Super Bowl party next weekend, take a minute to review this list first. According to Consumer Reports and MSN Money, there is a cycle to bargains that can be found with many household essentials, and you as the consumer can save big bucks by planning ahead and shopping during these prime times!

So, back to that TV – according to these lists, March is the best month of the year to make that purchase. The folks at Real Simple attribute this discount to the fact that new models are introduced at the International Consumer Electronics Show each January, and retailers clear out old inventory to make way for the latest items, which ship in March. If you can wait a few more weeks you might find a great deal!
