What to Expect When Selling a Home

Selling a home takes a lot of work, from the home improvement projects that may be needed to get your home ready to list, to being flexible and patient while your home is on the market. Real estate transactions involve a lot of moving parts. Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you prepare to sell your home:

  • The date on the contract will most likely change – consider it to be a “guesstimate” that is subject to many variables
  • The property might not appraise at what you’re selling it for
  • Agents will miss showing appointments without calling to cancel, and appointments may even be made and cancelled at the last minute
  • Some showings will last just a few minutes, others might extend past an hour
  • We will always do our best to provide you with plenty of time in advance of a showing, but there may be times when we get a request to show the home on short notice – it’s to your advantage to accommodate as often as possible when people want to see your home
  • People or agents driving by who see a sign in your yard might knock on the door and ask to tour the house – call us if that happens, it shouldn’t
  • Expect lowball offers – remember, you don’t have to accept; it’s a starting point
