That’s right friends. The start of college basketball season is just around the corner! It’s a great season for gathering with friends and family for watch parties – and this year at our home we have a new little Jayhawk pulling for KU.

Meet my son, Noah! Born in March, Noah and I watched our first game together in the hospital the night he was born. And this Friday he gets to watch his first Late Night on TV with Dad. I can’t wait!

No matter who you root for, there’s sure to be lots of great games and fun ahead. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

Kansas City BBQ consistently ranks among the nation’s best. And with so many great choices throughout the metro, it’s no wonder locals can get heated over their favorite! Me, on the other hand, I can’t pick just one – I’m an Oklahoma Joe’s (Z-Man Sandwich)/Gates (BBQ beef on bun) guy.

But whether you’re a fan of BBQ served in a gas station, or you prefer to sauce your own at home, you would for sure enjoy the American Royal World Series of BBQ next weekend (Oct. 4-Oct. 7). This annual event will showcase 545 teams competing in four meat categories. A variety of family-friendly events will be available throughout the weekend, including cooking demonstrations, the Kids’ Korral and live music!

And if you can’t make it to the Royal, don’t let that stop you from trying some new BBQ! Check out Jon Russell’s, a new BBQ restaurant that recently opened in Overland Park.

Hello, IKEA!

It is HUGE news across the metro – IKEA is coming to Merriam, KS! Plans are underway for the store to be developed at the vacant strip mall situated off I-35 and Johnson Drive. The store, set to open in the fall of 2014, has been in demand from area residents who pushed for IKEA to come to Kansas City … similar to the push Kansas Citians made for Trader Joe’s to set up shop here. Now we’ll have both!

Landing big stores like these not only make residents very happy, but they’re important for the future growth of the metropolitan area and for the local economy. Congrats to the city of Merriam on this big success!

Want to be by the action? If you’re an IKEA shopper and want to get close to the much-anticipated store, check out this listing at
